As ever more corporations begin to focus on strategies to gain competitive advantage through environmentally sustainable practices, such as carbon reduction, energy efficiency and cleaner technologies and discover that considerable opportunities to save money exist by doing so they will need business leaders who can lead in these efforts and who understand the issues and opportunities that exist.
A Masters Degree in a Green Business Administration, The Green MBA, positions one to become a leader in this exciting transformation of the way business is being conducted around the world. It can help those who are driven to achieve make this world a better place while they help their enterprises turn a long term sustainable profit.
The most important concept the students will learn is the ―Earth Systems lens or approach to organizational sustainability. The Systems Thinking takes complex systems and adds a natural component. For those that aren’t aware, complex systems thinking is based on the notion that the relationships in a system are not linear – that there is a complex set of interrelations that makes up the system. The Systems approach shares this notion, and also draws on the natural environment for more understanding of how these relationships work.
Like traditional MBA’s The Green MBA is granted after two years of graduate-level study that provides training in the theory and practice of business management with a focus on managing the enterprise in a sustainable fashion. This includes managing the environmental impact of the business, increasing energy efficiency, reducing waste, finding ways to promote sustainable practices in all aspects of the business from product development, to supply chain, production, packaging, distribution and marketing.
The green MBA, also called a ―sustainable business degree teaches an approach to business that changes the focus of business from short term financial gains only, to a long term appreciation of economic, social and natural capital; often called the triple bottom line. The phrase: profits, people and planet also evokes this broader metric for measuring a business’s long term success. The green management philosophy taught seeks to position the enterprise for long term success, by finding ways to use less energy and material, become more efficient, less wasteful and resourceful in how it does business.
The ACEU Green MBA Program of study is a Masters Level Program completed over 4 semesters run over 2 academic years by at least 3 members of the ACEU. The students spend 1 semester at each of the participating Universities delivering the relevant modules and than spend the last semester completing their Masters Research Thesis at the University from which they originate. After successfully completing the study program they receive a joint Diploma issued by the Universities which have accredited the Green MBA Program in their respective Countries.
University Sports Games – ACEU was an international sport event held on 18-21st of August in Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia. University Sports Games-ACEU represented the very first joint sports project of the Alliance of Central-Eastern European Universities – ACEU, and it was initially organized and developed by Educons University from Serbia – ACEU University founder and member.
The main objective of the Games organizer, Educons University, as the first private, fully accredited academic institution in the territory of AP Vojvodina, Serbia, and as the Alliance member, was to encourage mass development and promotion of sport among the student population, considering the affirmation of international cooperation in the field of university sports.
At the same time, the mission of the University Sports Games-ACEU was to create connections between the student population in Central and Eastern Europe and Serbia in the academic field of sport, relying on the aim of developing a harmonious unity of physical and spiritual abilities among students.

General propositions of the Games provided the following list of competitive disciplines:
In accordance with official program, each University had the right to apply no more than one team in each sport discipline. Participants were required to pay the participation fees (accommodation, transportation and sports equipment for the students) and the organizer was required to pay the general fees of event organization and development.
Taking into consideration the significance of this student sports manifestation, in promoting process of cooperation with other universities, and in strengthening private-public partnership in the sphere of higher education in the territory of Vojvodina and Serbia, the organizer’s expectations and wishes were, as well, to host in the competition section of the event, the team members who were the student representatives of the University of Novi Sad, University of Kragujevac and the Military Academy of the Republic of Serbia, Belgrade, who took part as special guests of the event.
For addressing the complex multi-stakeholder and multilevel challenges associated with climate change mitigation and adaptation an appropriate knowledge base is needed not only among public authorities but also among civil society, business sector etc. in order to have problem aware constituencies in the countries of the world supporting with their attitudes and actions governments towards bold future oriented global climate change action.
The countries in Southeast Europe are facing similar climate change challenges. On the one hand scientific climate change models predict especially serious climate change impacts in SEE but on the other hand SEE countries have also some kind of “window of opportunity” open as they are currently it transition of their socio-economic systems and governance structures in the context of EU integration processes and there is a chance to adapt relatively early to climate change in a joint effort of mobilizing national, European and official development assistance resources and to foster EU integration of the SEE region through joint climate change action.
Climate change is increasingly being seen not just as an environmental issue but as one which cuts across our economic, development and domestic and foreign policy agendas.
Europe has made a good start with the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, but more needs to be done to strengthen the market. But we still must do more. The World Bank and Regional Development Banks are developing a global Energy Investment Framework to accelerate public and private investment into energy for development, low carbon energy technologies and adaptation. Attracting this investment will require policy conditions that can mobilize international finance and domestic private sector investment.
We believe that for the twenty-first century we need an environmental contract where citizens, business and nations work together towards a goal, with clear understanding of each others’ rights and responsibilities. The Alliance of South Eastern European Universities wishes to contribute these discussions and provides an opportunity for all partners to play their part and be heard.
